Joshua and Cristiana*, a dedicated couple who have raised their children into adulthood, now find themselves caring for an aging parent. Cristiana’s mother, Grace*, moved in to live with their family, and they immediately began seeking additional services for Grace, who required companion care, skilled nursing, and additional home services.
Both Joshua and Cristiana have demanding full-time jobs, making it challenging to provide the skilled, loving care their mother needed while they were at work. They reached out to Love INC MoCo, who quickly identified several resources, including a local church’s Stephen’s Ministry, to step in and fill the gaps. A Stephen’s Minister provides one-on-one care to people facing life challenges, and this support proved invaluable for Grace, Joshua, and Cristiana.
As summer approached, Joshua and Cristiana planned a much-needed vacation. Balancing full-time jobs and daily care for Grace had left them in dire need of rest and recuperation. Once again, they reached out to Love INC MoCo, who identified a retired nurse named Kalisha*, who was willing to step in and care for Grace while they were away.
LINC MoCo was aware that Kalisha and her husband had previously provided similar care for another family with a mother in hospice. Interestingly, Kalisha’s husband had just lost his job a few days prior, and they were in need of financial provision. This new opportunity allowed Kalisha to provide the needed care for Grace and earn money as well.
Joshua and Cristiana were grateful to know that their mother was in the hands of someone skilled, known, and trusted. This arrangement not only ensured excellent care for Grace but also provided financial support to Kalisha’s family.
“And do not forget to do good and to share with others, for with such sacrifices God is pleased.” Hebrews 13:16
In this case, as in many others, LINC MoCo successfully linked a family in need of support with a family in need of work. Through their extensive network and knowledge of community resources, LINC MoCo bridges the needs of individuals and families with the resources of the church and community, exemplifying their mission to “LINC” support and services.
